SEWANEE GEARS UP FOR MID-SOUTH ACTION, PICKETT CO. LOOMS

October 8- After an open date, the SAS Mountain Lion football team closes with four straight Mid-South Conference games, starting Friday night at Pickett County High School. The final three games will all be played at home on Saturday afternoons with kick-off at 1:00. The Mountain Lions are currently 1-0 in conference play, owning a 20-14 victory over Scottsboro Christian.

After six games, Buikai Massiqui leads the team in rushing averaging 70 yards a game, while Vic Sims leads in all purpose yards with 105 per game. Sean Hershman leads the team in tackles with a total of 29, while Evan Barry and Jamie Reese each have two interceptions. /center>

SAS hopes to pick up another conference victory this Friday @ Pickett County.



MOUNTAIN LIONS EDGED BY ZION CHRISTIAN IN HOME OPENER, 22-12 September 1- The SAS Mountain Lions lost a hard fought 22-12 game to Zion Christian on Friday in the 2007 home opener.

        The Mountain Lions were hurt by an injury to running back Buikai Massiqui, who had 49 yards on 6 carries and a touchdown before leaving the game early in the second quarter. The Lions were never able to sustain a consistent offense for the rest of the afternoon.

        Zion's no huddle spread offense gave the SAS defense fits, running 66 plays to SAS 47 over the course of the game. Porter Westling had 7 tackles, Chris Singer 6, and Evan Barry 5 to lead the Lions. On offense, Singer completed 10 passes for 87 yards and a touchdown to Vic Sims, who had 7 catches for 59 yards.

The Mountain Lions take on Taft Youth Center on this Friday at home. Kick off is at 4:30.

SEWANEE OUT OF THE GATE STRONG, UPENDS TENNESSEE TEMPLE 22-2

August 25- Buikai Massaqui rushed for 115 yards in a 22-2 win over Tennessee Temple in Chattanooga Friday evening. Buikai had touchdown runs of 39 and 27 yards. Chris Singer added a touchdown on a one-yard run, while Evan Barry and Rob Hurst each ran two-point conversions.

        Defense was the key for the Mountain Lions as they kept the Crusaders out of the end zone, Temple's lone points coming on an SAS fumble recovered by the Mountain Lions in their own end zone. Barry had 2 interceptions and Singer had 10 tackles to lead the SAS defense. Robert Thomas contributed 6 tackles and Sean Hershman 5, including 3 tackles for losses.

        The Mountain Lions return home to face Zion Christian at 4:30 Friday afternoon. Zion will face SAS in volleyball at 3:30 and cross-country at 4:00 along with the football home opener.
